Wassup y’all, my name is Luke Whitney and I’m a bluesy soul artist from Beaumont Texas, by way of Chickasha Oklahoma. So many different types of music have sculpted my musical prowess in life but Stevie Ray Vaughn and Ray Charles left the biggest impact on my sound and it definitely reflects that in several different ways. I am an imbecile compared to their musical genius though. My mama chased the country music dream before I was born and during my early years. I remember she would bring me to the Broken Spoke when I was a kid for songwriter nights and that left a huge impression on me for the rest of my days. Many hours in the Broken Spoke.My first open mic night playing guitar and singing was at the Logon Café in Beaumont TX when I was 11. It’s the cover art for my EP Light Work Volume 2. Once I got into high school, everybody would freestyle rap to instrumentals or just pens and desk, and folks seemed to like what I would put together. There’s some folks from back home that still call me Louie G. to this day.But Louie G. grew up too fast and eventually would waste a lot of time trying to be somebody he wasn’t, worrying about things that didn’t serve him, the Lord, or his future/career. I eventually picked my guitar back up and started writing again in 2015.Here we are 11 years later, and a story to tell. Which brings in my first single of the year, Grow Motion. I’m pretty much preaching to myself but I ain’t the only one that’s had a long road full of blood sweat and tears. Despite all the bad that can happen to us, I aim to live like 1 Thessalonians says, ‘’Be joyful always, Pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances.’’ Which means I have already won. I strive to live my life how God wants me to, not how I want to.That’s really all I have to offer y’all. Some hope and encouragement. These are modern bluesy soul grooves. Hollerin advice I wish I would have latched onto earlier in my life but more importantly, it’s a ‘we need to get our business together because Jesus is coming back and he wants the best for you and your life’, type of message. I’m wrapped in the idea of “meaning”. There’s too many artists out here sayin’ a whole lot of nothin’. That ain’t me.Ain’t no character to portray though. I’m not an actor, even though I’m not shy of the opportunity holla if you hear me! What y’all see is a dude that doesn’t like attention unless music is involved. A kid that grew up always thinking he wasn’t good enough but kept trying anyways, despite the millions of avoidable mistakes. A kid that seemed to always fall short or miss the mark some way or the other. Bottom line is, we were given a code to withhold from the creator of everything. He sent a man named Yeshua that came and delivered that message to wake everyone up from the hell that was all around them. I write to tell my story on the way to finding that message and what’s it’s been like since I did. Thank you for being here.
